BIOHOME is a highly efficient biological filter media, it can house billions of beneficial bacteria which aids in the elimination of substances which are toxic to fish, such as Ammonia, Nitrite and also Nitrate

Is made entirely from recycled glass and by-product from the natural minerals industry containing trace elements beneficial to bacteria. Biohome is a totally inert, highly porous matrix structure allowing the natural formation of both aerobic and anaerobic Bacteria. Fast to start the Nitrogen cycle, normally 21-42 days is the time required for colonisation of Ammonia and Nitrite converting aerobic Bacteria and 4-6 months for the inner non oxygen surfaces to to colonise by anaerobic Nitrate converting Bactria. (Flow rate is a major factor in the reduction of Nitrates). Easy cleaning, unlike plastic media no slime layer is produced because the bacteria recognise the medias natural surface.

Combined with good mechanical pre filtration the media will not clog due to its unique construction, it is a natural matrix of millions of spheres fused together at there points of contact a sphere having the greatest surface area of any shape. Allows much smaller footprint sized filter due to its high surface area. Later capacity exists and has been shown to absorb sudden peak change , in effect its self adjusting as the nitrification rate is increased.

BIOHOME Bio Gravel
​
Biogravel is an entirely new concept for filtration and is essentially a gravel made from sintered glass which has a wide range of applications. The latest development from Biohome, Biogravel is the ideal substrate for your tanks. It will not increase pH, supports growth of zooplankton and is the perfect playground for shrimp. Having a porosity of approx. 42% it performs at a similar level to the Biohome Standard and Plus with the added benefit of being small enough to be used in very small situations.

The most obvious place for Biogravel is as a substrate in aquariums which have an under gravel system where it acts as not only a substrate but also an effective filter media too.
​
Many internal and HOB filters will have very limited provision for biological media so Biogravel is perfect to boost performance by offering an efficient media for bacterial action to occur.
​
It is most suitable as a shrimp and plant substrate, media for under gravel filter, internal filters, HOB filters and DIY filters made from ornaments.
​
The Biogravel is easily cleaned using gravel cleaner (if used as substrate) or by vigorous agitation in water drained off during tank maintenance. Complimentary filter starter balls are shipped with each order.

The massive surface area means that this media is suitable for overhead filters, trickle towers / bakki showers, external filters and can be used used in existing aquarium filters in place of old media to improve biological action and efficiency

Very similar to ‘bacteria house’ media used in bakki shower filters but way cheaper and more bacteria friendly
The huge available and protected surface area allows aerobic and anaerobic bacteria to thrive creating an excellent environment for the removal of not only ammonia and nitrite but also nitrate too
Less nitrate = less algae

This media has been exclusively manufactured to specifications. It is an evolved form of Biohome ultra and contains added trace elements necessary for bacterial colonisation
